A Business in a Blog … Step-by-Step
I don’t plan to post a lot of articles from the newsletter here, but I think this one will be especially helpful to folks looking to get started.
It gives you a complete “business in a blog,” with business model, step-by-step instructions, and multiple revenue streams. Everything you need to download, where to get it, and what to do with it.
And it’s designed for real people, not professional online marketers. Very little time, technical expertise or money required. You might take a little while getting skilled at some of what you’ll see (and you might pick it up immediately), but none of it is hard, and all of it is stuff that will be useful for many years.
If you already know how to register a domain and install a blog, you can just scroll past a big chunk of it. And, whether you have any interest in the specific example or not, I recommend reading this carefully. There are parts of it that will help you with a lot of other businesses.

The Future of Spam and Cyber-Crime
On November 12, 2008, the Washington Post published an article detailing the reasons behind an alleged 75% drop in spam, world-wide. (The figures I see vary, but they’re all quite large.)
This reduction was the result of the disconnection from the net of a web hosting firm called McColo. Yeah. A single company was at the center of that much of the world’s spam.
This raises some interesting questions.

What did you learn from the US Presidential campaign?
Just what the title asks… what lessons did you take away from the campaign of 2008?
To start it off: I was reminded that optimism is a much more powerful force in American psychology than fear.
Note: Posts that insult either candidate will be deleted.

Seeing things…
Anyone who’s read the newsletter for long knows there are a lot of resources associated with it. And that I like to test new things and experiment.
So, what would you like to see here? What would make this site (not just the blog) more useful to you and your business?
Go mild or go wild. I don’t promise to use every suggestion, but I do promise to read them.
Fun is also allowed. ;)

The Selling of the Presidency
I recently did a series on the lessons to be learned from an American Presidential campaign. These campaigns are easily the biggest case studies you’ll ever see, and every detail is there. All publicized, analyzed, criticized and laid bare in the kind of detail you’d never get about a commercial product launch.
I’ve put that series into a 33-page PDF, for your edification. Grab a copy, free, at Selling The Presidency.
Enjoy!

The World is your Playground!
This is an article that appeared in the newsletter back in 2003. After all the economic chaos lately, and thinking about some of the emails I’ve been getting from folks, it seemed like a good idea to re-run it here…
Stress. Overload. Technophobia. Computer anxiety. Burn-out.
Any of those words ring a bell? Maybe a little too loudly? Full Story »

Hello again, world!
Yes, after a long hiatus from blogging, we’re back.
A few quick comments to get things started.
You will need to be registered and logged in to comment. Your first comment will be moderated, and once that’s approved, future comments will show up without delay.
This is, obviously, to keep blog spam to a minimum.
Also, you’ll want to keep URLs to 3 or less in a comment if you want it to appear right away. Comments with more than that will have to be moderated. I don’t plan on doing that more than once a day after things get rolling, so poster beware.
You’ll note that I’m using an off-the-shelf theme for the blog. I tried to get someone to do a custom design, but after three designers missed the mark, I figured it was about time to skip that and get things rolling.
I’ll be tinkering with some things and adding others over the next few weeks. Mostly, I’m looking for a solid forum add-on. I’ve got a few leads, but we’ll see.
I’m gonna have some fun with it. I hope you will, too.
Suggestions for features, content or miscellaneous schtuff are, as always, welcome.
Paul
